Reading/ Literature

The student will integrate various strategies to read and comprehend a variety of printed materials. (use pictures, diagrams, titles, headings)

The student will demonstrate comprehension of a variety of printed materials (summarize stories and paraphrase info.; organize info. Logically; write about what is read)

The student will respond to literature through artistic and dramatic interpretations.

The student will read & learn the meanings of unfamiliar words. (use word-reference materials including the glossary, dictionary, and thesaurus)

The student will continue to read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of literary forms including fiction and nonfiction. (use text organizers to predict and categorize information)

Writing

The student will write descriptive paragraphs. (focus on central idea; include descriptive details) The student will write short reports across all content areas. (write paragraphs with organized beginning, middle, and end; use available technology; revise for specific information, including using a spell checker) The student will publish a variety of texts, including book responses.

The student will write effective narratives and explanations.(develop a plan for writing, organize writing to contain a central idea)

The student will write for a variety of purposes: to describe, to inform, to entertain, and to explain. (choose planning strategies for various writing purposes, organize information)

Math

Recognize, describe, extend, & create a wide variety of patterns. (The student will use technology as appropriate; the student will model patterns or relationships in a variety of ways.) The student will construct, interpret, and draw conclusions from tables, and charts to display given data.

The student will construct, read, and interpret tables, graphs, and charts. (The student will collect, organize, and display data in charts, tables, and line bar graphs with scale increments of one or greater than one.

The student will collect, organize, construct, read, interpret and display a set of numerical data in a variety of forms, given a problem situation, using tables, charts, pictographs, bar graphs, and line graphs.

Research

The student will record information from print and non-print resources and present findings in oral and written reports and other products, such as charts, diagrams, videos, or stories.

The student will use information resources to research a topic. (evaluate and synthesize info. for use in writing, use available technology)

The student will synthesize information from a variety of appropriately selected resources. (use available electronic databases to access information)
