The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Special Education is an interdisciplinary degree program within the professional education unit, offered by the College of Education, in cooperation with other departments, schools and colleges through the Graduate School of the University of South Carolina.

The M.A.T. degree in Special Education is designed to provide a route to INITIAL CERTIFICATION in special education with graduate work leading toward the M.A.T., while at the same time providing a professional knowledge base and meeting all of the initial certification requirements of The South Carolina State Department of Education and appropriate accrediting agencies.
